On the first day, Curator Melanie Kidd gave us a tour of two of the current New Art Exchange exhibitions by artists Mohammad Barrangi and Manish Harijan.

Local artist Chan Fagan delivered a presentation on their practice, concluding with a worldbuilding workshop where we created our own maps. We then walked around the local area and met NAE neighbours and collaborators Take 1 Studios, a community organisation delivering education, music and dance classes.

We ended the day at New Art Exchange's monthly Community Cafe.

Syllabus VII: New Art Exchange 21-22 November

In the morning we visited local galleries see exhibitions, The Last Horror Show. A celebration and exploration into the realm of horror through contemporary art and moving image at BACKLIT, and Donald Rodney: Visceral Canker, a major retrospective of the late British artist Donald Rodney at Nottingham Contemporay.

Saziso Phiri faciliated a workshop for the artists on how they might collectivise, now and in the future. Some of the artist cohort then delivered a reflection workshop on what the group have done throughout Syllabus VII so far, where they are currently at, and their focuses for the final gatherings.

The gathering finished with the option to perform at the New Art Exhange performance evening.
