We are delighted to announce a new Wysing edition created by 2024 Turner-prize nominee and Wysing Residency alum Delaine Le Bas. Le Bas’ transdisciplinary practice combines embroidery, painting, collage, sculpture, installation, and performance creating fantastical images and environments that reflect on nationhood, land, gender and belonging.

Exquisite Corpse 051124061124111124 combines imagery from historical works by Le Bas through her own version of the Surrealist parlour game ‘Exquisite Corpse’, where each participant adds a new body part, folding over the paper to hide their contribution as they pass it on. In Le Bas’ approach to the game, she plays it with her past self, working across multiple versions and leaving stretches of time before adding new parts. These colourful and otherwordly part-human, part-animal drawings often then act as maquettes for larger paintings and sculptures within Le Bas’ practice.

Delaine Le Bas is an artist living and working across the UK and Europe. Her work is currently on view at Tate Britain as part of the 2024 Turner Prize. Recent exhibitions include Delainia: 17071965 Unfolding, Tramway, Glasgow; The Archipelago on Fire... Paradise, Nantes (both 2024) Incipit Vita Nova, Secession, Vienna; House of Le Bas, Whitechapel Gallery, London (both 2023). She co-curated the first Roma Biennale, 'Come out Now!', in Berlin in 2018. She is currently artist in residence at The White House, Dagenham, a community art space by Create London, where she is developing an installation and working with Roma and Traveller communities.
