Summer Half Term Family Workshops: The Fifth Artist and Doorways to the Mysterious Multiverse
26, 27, and 28 May 2015, 10.30am-12.30pm

Come and see our new exhibition and get creative working with artists Kyle Kirkpatrick and Caroline Wendling in our summer half term workshops. We will open our gallery in the mornings especially for you to enjoy the new exhibition, The Fifth Artist, with new artworks by Olivier Castel, Jesse Darling, Crabtree & Evans and Alice Theobald.

Summer Half Term Family Workshops

Working together we will see if we can trace some of the ideas that helped make the new artworks. We will think about how ideas become things and have thoughts about future artworks of our own.

Tuesday 26 May 10.30am – 12.30pm Workshop 1: Tracking and Tracing: Ideas making Things
Working with artist Kyle Kirkpatrick we will explore the new exhibition together, thinking about who or what the Fifth Artist may be. Taking our own ideas from the exhibition we will make them into drawings and sculptures using paper, clay, plaster, graphite and ink. We will explore how the objects we make can cast ghostly shadows of ideas both indoors, in our studio and outdoors around our grounds.

Wednesday 27 May 10.30am – 12.30pm Workshop 2:  Doors and Walls: Ways through Thinking
Working with artist Caroline Wendling we will take ideas from the exhibition to work in our giant outdoor sculpture Amphis. Using paper, card, cloth and wood we will make magical doorways, passageways and tunnels to the Multiverse to discover our own imaginary worlds. Will we find the Fifth Artist there? Come and help us find out!

Thursday 28 May 10.30am – 12.30pm Workshop 3: Stage and Space: Text and Talking
Working with artist Kyle Kirkpatrick and taking inspiration from the objects and structures in the exhibition we will build our own environments and spaces. We will imagine the mysterious Fifth Artist in the gallery and use lots of different materials, objects and words to create mini worlds for the Fifth Artist to live in.

Come and join us to make art and have fun with Kyle and Caroline. Our artists will also talk about how they both became an artist and show us how they make their own artworks. We can also support you if you are working towards your Arts Award.
