Serious and Mysterious: Unimportant and Everyday
27, 28 & 29 May 2014, 10.30am-12.30pm

Join us for experimental and creative making sessions this coming half term. Exploring everyday life, daily journeys and ordinary routines and using all sorts of materials we find around us to make new art work.

Summer Half Term Family Workshops

The three family workshops led by artists Caroline Wendling and Soheila Sokhanvari, aimed at children aged 5 - 12 years, will include mystery walks and montage, textiles, string stitching and rope wrapping, stamps and printing work in two and three dimensions. Participants will get a special viewing of our latest exhibition Hey, I’m Mr. Poetic and explore Wysing’s outdoor site.

Tuesday 27 May 10.30am – 12.30pm
Workshop 1:  Mysterious Routes and Routines, Stitching Stories

Led by studio artist Caroline Wendling, and inspired by our current gallery exhibition and Wysing's unique outdoor site, we will make mysterious new artworks using lots of different materials including clay, rope, string, cloth and canvas.

Wednesday 28 May 10.30am – 12.30pm
Workshop 2: Packaging and Passports,  Storytelling Stamps
Work with studio artist Soheila Sokhanvari to create collaged passport style portraits for imaginary journeys and story telling. Using everyday packaging and objects we will make 2D and 3D family portraits and design our own stamps and slogans to inspire and tell our own stories.

Thursday 29 May 10.30am – 12.30pm
Workshop 3: Things that matter: telling stories & making mystery
Work with studio artist Caroline Wendling to make objects that inspire a story and tell it. Using materials from our everyday lives; shoe laces, labels, buttons and boxes, and items from our cupboards and shelves, we will make unique artworks and sculptures that convey mysterious stories and meanings.
